Whits host Lewis & Clark, Pacific teams
The Whitworth College men have a chance to get back to .500 in Northwest Conference basketball play this weekend when Lewis & Clark College and Pacific University visit the Whitworth Fieldhouse.
The Pirate women face the same two schools, as they attempt to rebound from the season’s first defeat.
The men (5-7 overall and 1-3 in NWC) are coming off a blowout loss to nationally ranked University of Puget Sound last Friday and a close defeat at Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday. But both tonight’s opponent, Lewis & Clark, and Saturday’s foe, Pacific, come to Spokane with 1-2 NWC marks and sub-.500 overall records.
The Whitworth women (12-1 and 3-1 after a 54-50 loss at PLU last Saturday) saw their national ranking drop to 15th in the WBCA Coaches poll and 21st in the D3hoops.com poll despite a Friday night win at UPS, now ranked 16th in both polls. But the Pioneers and Boxers have struggled this season, with both 1-2 in the NWC.
The women play at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 each night.
