Yankees 12, Orioles 3: At New York, Jason Giambi hit one of four Yankees homers and doubled twice, and Randy Johnson (8-6) gave New York a much-needed long outing on short rest in a victory over sinking Baltimore. The Yankees have won four consecutive games to move within a half-game of second-place Baltimore in the A.L. East.
Red Sox 7, Rangers 4: At Arlington, Texas, Manny Ramirez hit his 20th career grand slam and Boston also got home runs from David Ortiz and Bill Mueller in a win over Texas.
Tigers 3, Indians 2: At Cleveland, Mike Maroth (6-9) cooled off Cleveland’s hitters and Detroit won for the third time in 13 games with a victory over the Indians.
White Sox 6, Devil Rays 4: At Chicago, Frank Thomas hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning, and the White Sox rallied for a victory over Tampa Bay.
Athletics 10, Blue Jays 7 (11): At Toronto, Scott Hatteberg hit a two-run single in the 11th inning and Oakland reached .500 with a victory over Toronto. Oakland is 24-9 since May 29.
Angels 2, Twins 1: At Anaheim, Calif., Bengie Molina drove in the go-ahead run with a homer and Los Angeles defeated Minnesota for its 12th win in 15 games.
National League
Brewers 6, Marlins 4: At Miami, Russell Branyan collected three hits and two RBIs, and Geoff Jenkins had three hits and scored three runs to help Milwaukee beat Florida.
Pirates 3, Phillies 0: At Pittsburgh, Kip Wells (6-8) pitched a four-hitter and Jason Bay hit a two-run home run to lead the Pirates past Philadelphia.
Nationals 3, Mets 2: At Washington, Esteban Loaiza (5-5) won a pitchers’ duel against Pedro Martinez (9-3), throwing eight strong innings to lead the Nationals to a victory over New York.
Astros 6, Padres 2: At Houston, starter Brandon Backe (7-6) ended a personal three-game losing streak and Jason Lane hit a three-run homer to break open a close game as the Astros beat San Diego.
Braves 5, Cubs 1: At Atlanta, rookie Roman Colon (1-4) outpitched Greg Maddux (7-6) in his much-anticipated return to Atlanta, leading the Braves past Chicago.
Rockies 6, Dodgers 1: At Denver, Todd Helton tied the franchise record for home runs as Colorado defeated Los Angeles. Helton’s two-run homer in the seventh was the 258th of his career, tying Larry Walker’s mark.
Cardinals 7, Diamondbacks 1: At Phoenix, Albert Pujols drove in two runs with three hits – including a double and his 22nd homer – to extend his hitting streak to 17 games and lead St. Louis past Arizona.
Reds 7, Giants 4: At San Francisco, Wily Mo Pena hit a tiebreaking single in the sixth and drove in two runs, and Cincinnati beat the Giants for its first back-to-back road wins this season.
