Angels 7, Twins 6: At Los Angeles, Garret Anderson hit a three-run homer off Johan Santana in the seventh inning and threw out the potential tying run at home in the eighth, leading Los Angeles over Minnesota.

Tigers 7, Indians 3: At Cleveland, Jeremy Bonderman allowed two runs in eight innings, and Chris Shelton had three of Detroit’s 15 hits in a win over Cleveland.

Blue Jays 8, Athletics 0: At Toronto, Ted Lilly pitched seven scoreless innings, and Vernon Wells hit a three-run homer in Toronto’s five-run eighth to lead the Blue Jays over Oakland.

Red Sox 7, Rangers 4: At Arlington, Texas, David Ortiz homered and drove in three runs to lead Boston over Texas. Boston’s Johnny Damon extended his career-high hitting streak to 22 games.

White Sox 7, Devil Rays 2: At Chicago, Frank Thomas hit his second three-run homer in as many games, Jose Contreras won for the first time in a nearly a month and Chicago handed Tampa Bay its eighth straight loss. Chicago’s Bobby Jenks, who pitched at Lakeland High in Rathdrum as a sophomore, struck out two while pitching a hitless ninth in his major league debut.

National League

Cubs at Braves, ppd: At Atlanta, the game was postponed because of heavy rain from a tropical depression. The game will be made up today as part of a day-night doubleheader.

Mets 5, Nationals 3: At Washington, Tom Glavine and New York ended Livan Hernandez’s 2 1/2 -month winning streak with a victory over Washington.

Marlins 5, Brewers 4 (12): At Miami, Juan Encarnacion’s single won the game for Florida over Milwaukee in the 12th inning after A.J. Burnett had 14 of Florida’s 22 strikeouts in just six innings.

Phillies 5, Pirates 0: At Pittsburgh, Mike Lieberthal doubled and scored on Jason Michaels’ pop-fly single, then kicked off a four-run seventh with a sacrifice fly to lead Philadelphia past Pittsburgh.

Astros 5, Padres 4: At Houston, Lance Berkman and Adam Everett each had RBI singles and Morgan Ensberg had an RBI double in a three-run first to lead Houston past All-Star Jake Peavy and San Diego.

Dodgers 9, Rockies 5: At Denver, Antonio Perez homered and drove in a career-high five runs, and Jason Phillips added a three-run shot to lead Los Angeles past Colorado.

Cardinals 2, Diamondbacks 1: At Phoenix, David Eckstein’s suicide squeeze scored pinch-runner So Taguchi in the ninth inning, giving St. Louis’ Chris Carpenter his 13th victory in a win over Arizona.

Giants 7, Reds 2: At San Francisco, Lance Niekro’s pinch-hit, two-run triple broke a tie in the fifth, and San Francisco beat Cincinnati to end a four-game losing streak.
