Three new editors added to S-R’s staff
Three new editors have joined the staff of The Spokesman-Review. All say they look forward to connecting with the community.
As news editor, Bertil Peterson will supervise the news copy desk. A New York native, Peterson comes to The Spokesman-Review from the Boston Globe, where he was a makeup editor, special projects copy editor, Page 1 editor, night production manager and systems editor.
After 15 years in Boston, Peterson said, “I had been keeping my eye open for a meaningful job at a great smaller paper in a place where I would like to live, and The Spokesman and Spokane seemed like an ideal fit. This is a lovely, vibrant city with a proactive newspaper that does some great journalism.”
Peterson arrives with his wife, Alicia. They have five grown children.
After 18 years in Wichita, Kan., Spokane native Tom Green returns to the Pacific Northwest to work as the Idaho bureau editor. Formerly a national editor and business editor for the Wichita Eagle, he has also worked in Seattle for the weekly Seattle Sun and the United Press International’s Seattle bureau covering sports.
“Returning to the Inland Northwest has been interesting,” Green said. When he last lived in the area, it was referred to as the Inland Empire. “Some things feel very familiar; many of the changes – like the growth in North Idaho – I wasn’t altogether prepared for.”
A graduate of Ferris High School, Green is married and has three sons.
Also coming back to the Northwest after a leave of absence, Pamela Fitzsimmons works now as the assistant city editor, where she will primarily supervise reporters who cover social issues, education and the military. A graduate of the University of Oregon, Fitzsimmons worked as a reporter and a bureau chief for the San Bernardino Sun in southern California, and then as a metro editor of the Columbian in Vancouver, Wash.
“I look forward to working with reporters and editors who are not afraid to ask questions and challenge authority,” Fitzsimmons said.
