Week in review
Newman Lake SCOPE – Volunteers discussed the success of their joint hot dog sale fund-raiser with the Fire District 13 Ladies Auxiliary, which raised $2,000. The group’s marine patrol is out and about during the week and on most weekends. Volunteers have also been using radar to clock speeders on Starr Road, some reaching speeds of 80 miles per hour. Volunteers plan to ask the Sheriff’s Office to patrol the area to catch some of the scofflaws. (Source: Secretary Katie Rulffes)
Trentwood SCOPE – The group is getting organized for their Interstate 90 rest stop fund-raiser Aug. 22-24. They will be staffing the westbound stop at Sprague. Volunteers have been kept hopping lately with vandalism at several locations, including the Western Dance Center and Trent Elementary. They are trying to recruit new volunteers to increase patrols. Fairfield City Council – The town received a $7,500 grant from the Washington State Department of Community Trade and Economical Development for updating the comprehensive plan. Also received was a $3,300 grant for tree pruning and maintenance from the Department of Natural Resources. The town recently learned that they failed to get a grant from Foundation Northwest to pay for siding for the community center. A new barbershop is scheduled to open at the old flower shop location next to the grocery store on Main Street. (Source: Deputy City Clerk Donna McLean)
Rockford City Council – Council members are looking at funding options to repair a wastewater treatment lagoon. They also listened to a presentation from city of Spokane Valley officials on how they handle nuisance calls. (Source: City clerk)
