Athletics 5, Indians 4 (10): At Oakland, Calif., Marco Scutaro lined a single to left to drive in the winning run in the 10th inning, and Oakland rallied to defeat Cleveland.

Royals 6, White Sox 5 (13): At Kansas City, Mo., Mike Sweeney homered twice and drove in five runs as Kansas City overcame a five-run deficit and beat Chicago.

Red Sox 4, Devil Rays 1: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Tim Wakefield scattered six hits over 7 1/3 innings to give Boston a win over Tampa Bay.

Blue Jays 3, Angels 2 (10): At Toronto, Brendan Donnelly’s wild pitch with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 10th inning allowed Toronto to score the winning run and beat Los Angeles.

Twins 7, Yankees 3: At New York, Johan Santana had his best start in six weeks, shutting down New York for seven innings and leading Minnesota to a victory.

Rangers 11, Orioles 8 (11): At Baltimore, Gary Matthews hit a three-run homer in the 11th inning to complete his first career two-homer game, and Texas beat Baltimore.

Diamondbacks 3, Brewers 0: At Milwaukee, Claudio Vargas won for the fourth time in five decisions, and Arizona beat Milwaukee.

Cubs 4, Giants 3: At Chicago, Jeromy Burnitz hit a winning single in the ninth inning as Chicago rallied past San Francisco for its fourth victory in five games.

Braves 4, Nationals 3: At Atlanta, Jeff Francoeur made the most of his first start against a right-handed pitcher, getting three hits that led Atlanta over Washington.

Astros 3, Phillies 2: At Houston, Roger Clemens made it through seven shaky innings – by his high standard – and streaking Houston earned a victory over Philadelphia.

Marlins 3, Pirates 1: At Miami, Juan Encarnacion and Damion Easley homered, leading Florida to a win over Pittsburgh.

Mets 9, Rockies 3: At Denver, Marlon Anderson hit two homers and Ramon Castro homered and had three RBIs to help New York avoid a three-game sweep to baseball’s worst team with a victory over Colorado.

Padres 2, Cardinals 1: At San Diego, Jake Peavy and Trevor Hoffman combined on a three-hitter as San Diego snapped a season-high eight-game losing streak with a victory over St. Louis.

Reds 7, Dodgers 6: At Los Angeles, Ryan Freel went 3 for 4 and set a Cincinnati record with five stolen bases, and Ken Griffey Jr. homered and drove in two runs to lead the Reds to a victory over Los Angeles.
