Savings on summertime groceries

Fruity drinks are always a hit at backyard barbecue parties, and white sangria is a great way to stretch your budget dollars.

You can make this popular wine punch with or without alcohol and lighten it with sparkling water. Take 1 bottle of dry white wine (non-alcoholic, if preferred), 1/4 - 1/2 cup brandy (optional), 1/4 - 1/2 cup sugar or honey, and 1 orange, 1 lemon and 1 green apple, all sliced thinly. Combine the sugar, brandy and fruit in a large pitcher, pour the white wine over the fruit and chill for at least one hour. Add sparkling water to the punch just before serving.

To serve, place some strawberries or raspberries in a glass, add ice and sangria. It’s the perfect accompaniment to any summertime party.
