Get out of the house
Olivia’s Cottage: If you’re willing to drive a few miles, you can spend a little time at Olivia’s Cottage, a small antiques-filled building north of Spokane. Olivia’s will be open for business 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., beginning June 10-11.
Owner Gail Quaid sent a flyer listing furniture, shabby-chic garden items, pottery and vintage clothing. Everything is sold at “estate sale” prices, and you never know what you might find.
Although there won’t be anymore weekend sales until fall, Quaid will open the shop by appointment.
Olivia’s Cottage is at 21424 North Panorama Road in Colbert. Directions: Take U.S. Highway 395 north and turn right on Halfmoon Road. Panorama Road is half a mile south. For more information call (509) 953-3698
Corbin Park Sale: Sally Reid called to say the annual Corbin Park community sale will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 11.
Homes surrounding the park, as well as neighboring streets will participate. Goodies will be available.
If you’re interested in vintage luggage you might find this interesting: “Vintage Luggage: A Case History,” by Helenka Gulshan. Published 2003 by Philip Wilson Publishers. List price, $45.
Although the book is now out of print, if you can get your hands on a copy you’ll find an illustrated history of luggage through the mid-twentieth century. Gulshan is a dealer who specializes in restoring vintage luggage. She documents the history of “organized travel” with lots of illustrations and includes a directory of makers and retailers with a sourcebook for collectors.
