‘Candidate school’ in session Wednesday

The Spokesman-Review

For the political novice thinking about running for the one of seven Spokane Valley City Council seats up for election in November, help is available.

On Wednesday the Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce will host a course to show potential candidates the ins and outs of running a campaign.

“This should help people decide whether or not they really want to go forward with it,” said Eldonna Gossett, president of the Chamber.

From 1 to 5 p.m., speakers will go over the rewards and challenges of campaigning and public office.

Topics will include campaign financing and organization, public relations and a number of political issues specific to Spokane Valley. Scheduled speakers include Spokane City Council President Dennis Hession, former State Sen. Brian Murray and Spokane Journal of Business publisher Greg Bever.

The “candidate school” costs $20, which includes an informational notebook.
