Short-handed Shadow shut out

The Spokesman-Review

YAKIMA – The Spokane Shadow were a shadow of themselves by the end of Friday’s soccer match.

Already missing three starting forwards for various reasons, the Shadow lost another starter to a red card with 15 minutes left in the match, hurting their comeback chances during a 1-0 loss to the Yakima Reds.

Jared Auckland scored at 65 minutes for the Reds (4-2-2, 14 points), who moved past Spokane (4-3-0, 12) into second place in the PDL’s Northwest Division.

The first-place Cascade Surge (5-0-1, 16 points) travel from Salem, Ore., to Albi Stadium today for a 7:05 p.m. match, their second against the Shadow this season. Cascade won the previous matchup 4-3.

The Surge played last-place Abbotsford on Friday.
