Fairfield City Council – Council members discussed the pros and cons of annexing to Fire District 2. The town recently received a community development block grant for nearly $163,000 that will be used to recoat the town’s water tanks. Mosquito spraying has begun and will be done all through town every other Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. Road oiling will begin this week. The town has contacted a company and will coordinate the work, but homeowners must pay for it. A public hearing on the six-year transportation improvement program will be held at the next meeting, which is set for July 5. (Source: Town clerk Sue Adams)

Spokane Valley Fire – Commissioners heard a report about a group of 14 firefighters who recently took a group of special needs children on a fishing trip. They discussed the federal grant application seeking money to fund nine new firefighter positions. (Source: Commissioner Joe Dawson)

Edgecliff SCOPE – A speaker from Spokane Public Schools spoke about the rapid responder program, which works with various agencies to coordinate any emergencies at schools by providing maps of the schools, among other things. Volunteers also discussed their upcoming crafts fair in August and a cookbook they plan to sell to raise money. The recipes will be sent to the publisher at the end of the month.
