If you like the sound stylings of Madonna, you may also like crooner Joe Cocker.

Don’t believe it?

According to Savage Beast Technologies, Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” shares some of the same electronic keyboard and production touches as Cocker’s “Talking Back to the Night.”

Savage Beast knows that because the company’s trained “song taggers” have classified hundreds of characteristics of those songs and many others. The data is plugged into a music recommendation engine, which is software designed to find songs that share similar traits.

It’s a better system than recommending customers buy certain CDs based on previous purchases, the company’s founder argues.
