Edmonton still has shot at WHL team

Calgary Sun

After wrapping up its board of governors meetings Wednesday in Calgary, Alberta, the Western Hockey League did not give Edmonton an expansion team, but league commissioner Ron Robison said it could happen later this year.

“We did review what we consider to be a new divisional alignment looking at Edmonton as part of that, but we have not entertained a formal expansion offer at this point but would be reviewing that at our October meeting,” said Robison.

Edmonton Oilers president Patrick LaForge, who made two separate bids to buy the Tri-City Americans, has made it no secret the Oilers want a club in the WHL, especially now that the American Hockey League’s Roadrunners have suspended operations.
