Nats’ Guillen sounds off

Associated Press

NOTES

Jose Guillen arrived in Anaheim with the Washington Nationals earlier this week insisting he had nothing bad to say about his former team.

By the time he left late Wednesday night, he certainly had said plenty about Angels manager Mike Scioscia.

“I have no respect for him any more, because I’m still hurt from what happened last year,” Guillen said after Washington’s 1-0 win. “Mike Scioscia to me is like a piece of garbage.”

The friction between Guillen and Scioscia began last September when Guillen was removed for a pinch-runner and threw a tantrum in the dugout that carried into the clubhouse.

The Angels suspended him for the final eight regular-season games, left him off the postseason roster, then traded him in November.

Booed loudly by Angels fans every trip to the plate, Guillen obviously got fired-up during Tuesday night’s pine tar feud, when he was restrained by several teammates.

“I am so happy that my teammates grabbed me and dragged me back to the dugout,” Guillen said, “because if I was right in the middle, the story was going to be different.”

Braves put Hudson on DL

The Atlanta Braves put right-hander Tim Hudson on the 15-day disabled list Thursday.

Hudson lasted only 22/3 innings Monday, giving up five runs in a 7-3 loss to Texas. The Braves said Hudson had a strained muscle in his left side.

Hudson’s roster spot was taken by right-hander Jim Brower.

Marlins unsure

With their hopes for a new retractable-roof stadium still in limbo, the Florida Marlins are continuing to “review all options,” team president David Samson said.

Samson did not say whether the team’s hope of being in a new facility in time for the 2008 season was still feasible. The Marlins want a 38,000-seat ballpark to be built adjacent to the Orange Bowl in downtown Miami.

The team, city and county did not meet a June 9 deadline imposed by Major League Baseball, which sought a detailed update on funding plans for the proposed ballpark.
