Spokane Valley seeks input, plans hearings on comprehensive plan

From staff reports

The city of Spokane Valley is still accepting public comment on its comprehensive plan – a document that will guide land use, growth and transportation decisions for the next 20 years.

A public hearing before the Planning Commission will be held from 6 to 9 tonight at the Spokane Valley Community Center, 10814 E. Broadway Ave. Another hearing will take place from 6 to 9 Thursday night at Spokane Valley City Hall, 11707 E. Sprague Ave.

A draft of the plan is available at the city’s Web site, www.spokanevalley.org, or CDs of the plan are available free of charge at City Hall. Hard copies of the document are available for viewing at Valley libraries. They can be purchased for $27.50 at Pip Printing, 4201 E. Trent Ave. Call the printer in advance at (509) 926-1536 to request a copy.

The state’s Growth Management Act requires that municipalities limit development to areas within a predetermined urban growth boundary. In the next 20 years, the city is expected to gain at least 20,000 residents who will live within that boundary.

How the city fills in empty spaces in residential areas, where different types of businesses will be located and the possible development of a downtown for the Valley during that time are all addressed in the comprehensive plan.

All interested residents are encouraged to comment on the plan at one of the public meetings or in written form until public meetings are no longer scheduled.

To submit a comment, mail to Spokane Valley Community Development, 11707 East Sprague Ave., Suite 106, Spokane Valley, WA 99206, or e-mail it to planning@spokanevalley.org.
