Look what I found!
Occasionally, when you’re treasure hunting, you stumble on a site that is rich with unexpected finds.
When Janet Ellquist visited the state of Arkansas several years ago, she noticed two elaborate, hand-painted and hand-cut items in an antique shop. She inquired about them and learned they were German calendar holders made sometime between World War I and World War II. Each year a new calendar could be inserted.
Ellquist purchased the pair. “I loved the workmanship,” she said. “And I had never seen anything like it.”
As she shopped around the Arkansas town, Ellquist noticed several more vintage holders at other antique shops, but she has never found any more since.
She had her paper prizes framed, without glass, so that guests can appreciate the detail up-close.
“The only other place I’ve seen them for sale was eBay,” Ellquist said. “If I ever get back to Arkansas, I’ll look for more.”
