Teens arrested in confrontation

From staff reports

A group of teenagers assaulted two people and broke windows at a home in north Spokane, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

Eight people were arrested in the incident, said sheriff’s spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan in a news release.

Deputies were called to a home in the 8000 block of North Normandie about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The investigation found that the group showed up at the home to confront a 17-year-old who had been in a fight with another teen Monday. When the 17-year-old came outside, the group pepper-sprayed him and his girlfriend, Reagan said.

The couple ran into the house and called 911 while the group broke windows in the home with a metal bat and tree limbs, Reagan said.

Later, the 17-year-old punched one of people in the group while in the presence of a deputy. He was arrested.

Also arrested were 16- and 17-year-old boys and 14- and 15-year-old girls.

They were booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center.

Kadene M. Simchuk, Leonard L. Hahn III, and Justin Galles, all 18, were booked into the Spokane County Jail.

They face riot charges.

Another man, Levi C. Merkel, 18, ran from the scene and is wanted by deputies on charges including second-degree assault and riot.
