Rosholt, Pascoe make NCAA quarterfinals
ST. LOUIS – Oklahoma State junior Jake Rosholt and Nebraska senior Travis Pascoe, both area products, won their first two matches Thursday as the NCAA Wrestling Championships began at the Savvis Center.
Rosholt, the No. 2 seed at 197 pounds and a national champion in 2003, advanced to the quarterfinals with two easy wins. Rosholt (29-3) graduated from Sandpoint High.
Gonzaga Prep product Pascoe (27-3), seeded third at 184, edged Virginia Tech’s Steve Boria 6-5 in the second round to pick up his 100th career win and make the quarterfinals.
Oregon State’s Tony Hook (13-9), of Sandpoint, lost his opener at 157 to top seed Alex Tirapelle of Illinois, but won his first consolation match.
Losing twice were: Boston University heavyweight Courtney Howard, East Valley High; Boise State’s Casey Phelps (197), from Lakeland High in Rathdrum; and Minnesota’s Tommy Owen (141), from University High.
