The Spokesman-Review

Whitworth’s Sarah Shogren has been named a second-team All-American by D3hoops.com, capping a brilliant career for the senior from East Valley.

In addition, Shogren and Tiffany Speer, a senior from Snohomish, Wash., were named honorable mention on the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association/Kodak All-America team.

Players were eligible for the D3hoops.com team after earning spots on the publication’s All-Region team last week. WBCA/Kodak selections are based on nominations from member head coaches.

Shogren started all 25 games and averaged 18.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. She led the Northwest Conference with 14 double-doubles. She was also a first-team All-NWC selection and an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American.

Speer also started all 25 games and averaged 18.8 points. She is Whitworth’s second all-time leading scorer with 1,707 career points.

The pair helped lead the Pirates to a 22-3 record, the best in school history, and second place in the NWC (13-3).

The five-year-veteran was also recognized for his career in a Chiefs uniform, one that spanned 301 games and totaled 734 career penalty minutes. Desautels finished with the third most penalty minutes in franchise history and fifth in games played.
