Changes planned at St. Vincent’s
St. Vincent de Paul, the charitable organization established in 1833, is bringing something new to the Hillyard neighborhood and Monroe Street.
The Monroe store is moving to a new location, and the Hillyard store has been remodeled. In order to show off the improvements, both stores will hold a grand opening April 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mayor Jim West will preside over ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the Hillyard store at 10:30 a.m. and the Monroe store at 11 a.m.
Mathew Meeusen, Spokane executive director, said although the celebration isn’t slated until next weekend, the new store at 2824 N. Monroe St. will open Saturday.
St. Vincent de Paul has been at 2106 N. Monroe since 1984. The square footage at the new place is smaller (5,000 compared to 6,200), but the location actually has more space because of the floor plan. Meeusen said it will be easier to display merchandise against the walls.
The 800-square foot Hillyard store, 3019 E. Diamond Ave., has been painted. Fixtures were updated, and the store now can carry appliances. The store has been in Hillyard since 1941 and in the same building since the 1980s.
Meeusen said the six stores in Eastern Washington generated $1.2 million in annual revenues last year.
