New Rogers principal named
Carole Meyer has been named principal of Rogers High School, replacing longtime Principal Wallace Williams.
Meyer has been principal at Havermale High School for the past year. Prior to that she was an assistant principal at Ferris High School. She has also been a counselor and special education teacher during her 18 years in education.
The Spokane Public Schools board of directors named Meyer to the job Wednesday.
Williams is stepping down after 17 years as principal at Rogers. Williams will take a special assignment with the district to evaluate drop-out rates for a year, before retiring after 31 years as an educator.
“Wallace is an icon in the Rogers community. The man has such wisdom. I want to honor the work that he and his team have done by continuing his work to have all students reach high standards and be ready for any post-secondary pursuit they desire,” Meyer said.
“I’ve been campaigning for myself for this job for a few years. I’ve always wanted Rogers. I’m very excited about it.”
Meyer said that in addition to working on instructional goals, Rogers is also facing a modernization of the building. “There’s a lot of work to do in that area. We want to give Rogers the best facility that the district has to offer.”
Meyer, 43, is originally from Princeton, a town near Moscow, Idaho, that had a population of 87 when she lived there. “I’m from that small-town environment, and Hillyard feels just like home to me,” she said.
Meyer earned her bachelor’s degree and administrative certificate from Eastern Washington University and her master’s degree from Whitworth College.
Meyer will begin her new position on July 1. A search will be conducted for her replacement at Havermale.
