Lumberjacks win with five-run eighth

Ryne Eberlin finished 4 for 4 in stolen bases and St. Maries scored five runs in the eighth inning Saturday to defeat host Bonners Ferry 10-5 in Intermountain League baseball.

Eberlin, who started and worked seven innings, finished 2 for 2. His two-run double highlighted the big eighth inning, which included three walks and a hit batter.

Logan Shelden of the Lumberjacks added a 3-for-5 day at the plate.

Softball

Kristi Smith threw a no-hitter in the opening game of St. Maries’ 13-0, 15-2 sweep at Bonners Ferry in the Intermountain League. Kelsie Lee started the Lumberjacks’ offense in the first game with an RBI triple in the first. St. Maries’ Erika Lehman had a two-run, first-inning double in the second game. … Also in the IML, Shauna Schryver pitched a two-hitter as visiting Priest River defeated Kellogg 7-3 to gain a doubleheader split. The host Wildcats won the opener 7-1 as Stephanie Martin scattered eight hits and singled twice.

Washington track and field

East Valley’s boys and girls swept the team titles during Saturday’s Cheney Blackhawk invitational track meet at Eastern Washington University.

EV’s boys scored 140 points for a 39-point gap over the host Blackhawks in the 10-team field.

EV’s girls totaled 138 points to hold off Cheney (125 1/2 ) and eight other teams.
