Millwood City Council – Members listened to a presentation by Dave Smith of the West Valley School District about the renovation of the high school. The city’s insurance coverage also was discussed. (Source: City clerk Eva Colomb)

Fairfield City Council – Members passed a motion to remain part of the Spokane County Consortium that allows access to community development block grant funds. They also discussed redoing a 1986 annexation of 1.8 acres that should have gone through the Boundary Review Board but didn’t. Members also talked about finding ways to pay the law enforcement contract with Spokane County, which has risen to $32,000 this year. Spokane Valley Fire Department – Commissioners passed a resolution to dispose of surplus property at an auction possibly later this month. The property includes old outdated computer and firefighting equipment. They also discussed the higher than usual number of calls for structure fires, medic calls and grass fires. There was a brief executive session to discuss contract negotiations expected to start in June. (Source: Commissioner Joe Dawson)

Liberty Lake SCOPE – Attendees discussed an upcoming City Hall open house that SCOPE will participate in because the SCOPE office is in City Hall. It’s scheduled for 2-8 p.m. on May 19. It was also announced that SCOPE volunteers helped collect six truck loads of hazardous household materials in Liberty Lake during a recent collaboration with the Aquifer Protection Board.
