Twins 8, Devil Rays 1: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Lew Ford’s two-run double capped a four-run fifth, Justin Morneau hit a three-run homer and Minnesota beat Tampa Bay.

Orioles 5, Royals 3: At Baltimore, Brian Roberts homered on the first pitch in the bottom of the first inning to back an impressive pitching performance by Bruce Chen, and Baltimore beat Kansas City.

Yankees 5, Athletics 0: At New York, Mike Mussina restored some order to the staggering Yankees, pitching a four-hitter in New York’s victory over Oakland. Mussina (3-2) dominated the Athletics with his 22nd career shutout and first since Aug. 17, 2003.

White Sox 10, Blue Jays 7: At Toronto, Paul Konerko homered twice and drove in five runs, a day after ending a 0-for-26 slump, and Chicago beat Toronto to win its seventh straight. Jon Garland became the American League’s first six-game winner.

Rangers 6, Indians 1: At Arlington, Texas, Alfonso Soriano had his second straight two-homer game, this one in a victory as Texas beat Cleveland. Soriano’s home run leading off the second inning was his third in three at-bats.

Tigers 2, Angels 1: At Anaheim, Calif., Troy Percival saved his first game against his former team for Jeremy Bonderman, who pitched four-hit ball over eight innings to lead Detroit over Los Angeles.

National League

Braves 4, Astros 1: At Atlanta, Julio Franco hit his first home run of the season and Horacio Ramirez pitched seven shutout innings as Atlanta sent Houston to its 10th straight road loss.

Mets 7, Brewers 5: At Milwaukee, Pedro Martinez allowed three hits in seven innings and Carlos Beltran hit a pair of two-run homers to lead New York over Milwaukee. Martinez (4-1) struck out 11 but allowed a season-high five earned runs in seven innings.

Marlins 4, Rockies 1: At Miami, Josh Beckett pitched seven shutout innings and Florida beat Colorado, extending the Rockies’ losing streak to 10 games. Beckett (5-2) allowed five hits and one walk, lowering his ERA to 2.14.

Nationals 11, Giants 8: At San Francisco, Ryan Church hit a tiebreaking, bases-clearing double in the ninth – finishing with career highs of four hits and four RBIs – and Washington sent San Francisco to its season-worst fourth straight loss.

Reds 11, Dodgers 3: At Cincinnati, Austin Kearns capped a six-run sixth inning with a two-run homer, and D’Angelo Jimenez had three hits as Cincinnati snapped an eight-game losing streak with a win over Los Angeles.

Padres 5, Cardinals 4: At St. Louis, Adam Eaton pitched into the seventh after a shaky start, and seldom-used Mark Sweeney had the go-ahead hit for the second straight game in San Diego’s win against St. Louis. Trevor Hoffman worked the ninth for the 401st save of his career.

Phillies 4, Cubs 1: At Chicago, Jimmy Rollins snapped a tie in the fifth inning with an RBI single, and Philadelphia sent Chicago to its seventh straight loss.

Pirates 3, Diamondbacks 2: At Phoenix, Josh Fogg limited the Diamondbacks to two hits in seven-plus innings to help Pittsburgh defeat Arizona.
