YOUR BEAUTIFUL HOME

Magnolia blossoms, tended by the homeowner create a gorgeous scene at the front of the house.

Susan King wrote to recommend the Spokane home of friends Cheryl Mortenson and Randy Hendershot.

“I like to refer to them as the artist and the handyman,” King wrote.

Mortenson describes the house the couple has renovated, which was built in 1929 and sits on a double lot, as “Ohio Farm Style.”

An artist who uses vintage items to make interesting garden art, Mortenson uses china, glass and unusual stones to create mosaics on outdoor furniture. Many of her pieces can be found in the garden that surrounds the house.

Although she’s an avid gardener, Mortenson knew she had created a beautiful space the day a large bus stopped in front of her home to let a group tour her garden.

“I never found out who they were, but I can’t blame them,” Mortenson says. “This place brings us a lot of pleasure.”
