Bergum fires a bogey
It is hard to believe that the S-R is so hard up for a golf writer that they have Steve Bergum cover golf.
It is embarrassing for all concerned to have him demonstrate his lack of pride and respect for the game.
At least he should get the language right. Does he read any of the magazines, columns and books about golf?
He is so obviously proud to be a “golfer” and not a player. He goes “golfing” and probably “golfs” most weekends. I shudder to think how he would write if he took up “tennissing.” Did he do any “footballing” as a youngster?
The game of golf is under attack enough with non-players looking at it as an excuse to drive cute little “carts” around well-manicured surroundings. At least Mr. Bergum professes to walking the course. It will just be a matter of time before he will have to “ride” because he will be three feet high, lying prone, at midpoint.
His attempt to glorify, with exaggeration and attempts at humor, his ignorance of the game and common sense should serve as an example to all would-be sports journalists to not bite the hand that feeds them.
Isn’t there anyone on the sports desk that knows how to play the game?
