Kellogg tied for 3A lead
Derek Jarvey led three Kellogg players in the top 10 as the Wildcats are tied with Shelley for first place after the first round of the Idaho 3A boys state golf tournament at Clear Lake Country Club in Buhl.
Jarvey’s 80 trails American Falls medalist Tyler Driscoll by five strokes and put him in fourth place. Carter Wardwell’s 82 was good for eighth place, and Shea Sevy rounded out the top 10 with an 84.
Bonners Ferry is in last place among nine teams, 70 strokes off the pace of the leaders.
On the girls side, Kellogg is in third place, 22 strokes behind first-place Weiser, while St. Maries is in sixth. The girls only played nine holes as play was suspended due to rain.
•Wallace is in sixth place and Clark Fork is eighth among nine teams after day one of the boys 2A state tournament at Burley Municipal Golf Course. Wallace’s Dayne Evenson and Clark Fork’s Nate Allen each led their teams with 91s. Glenns Ferry leads the tournament by one stroke over Magic Valley Christian. The girls’ first round was suspended due to lightning; it will begin at 8 a.m. today.
•The 5A state results from Twin Falls Municipal course were not reported, while the 4A state tournament at Rupert Country Club was rained out. The 4A first round will begin at 8 a.m. today.
•In Washington, Joel Dahmen of Clarkston won medalist honors, and five Bantams placed among the top 10 in the District 8 3A boys tournament at Deer Park Golf Course. Dahmen’s 1-under 71 defeated teammate Corey Wooley by three strokes. West Valley’s Ashley Weiber was the girls medalist with an 84, winning by four strokes over East Valley’s Ashley Saffe. Each team’s top six players advanced to regionals.
Softball
Stephanie Trudeau struck out 13 in a one-hit shutout as Shadle Park (19-1, 18-1 GSL) won sole possession of its second Greater Spokane League title with a 7-0 victory at East Valley (8-12, 7-12).
Trudeau received an early cushion from Randi Sandifer and Stephanie McVay, who each hit RBI doubles in the first inning.
Shadle’s other title was in 2001.
North Central (10-9, 10-9), the GSL’s top 3A team, eliminated Cheney (4-16, 4-15) from District 8 playoff contention with an 8-4 win at Franklin Park. Pitcher Kelsey Vallies helped her own cause with a two-run triple in a five-run second inning for NC. … Kim Watson threw a one-hitter, striking out seven, and hit a solo home run in the first as Mead (17-3, 16-3) defeated Ferris (1-19, 1-18) 10-0 in five innings at Mead. … Claire Pupo advanced to third on a Stacy Hamer single, then scored the winner on a wild pickoff attempt as Gonzaga Prep (12-8, 11-8) won at home, 4-3 over Rogers (7-13, 7-12).
•Three GSL games were postponed until today due to rain – West Valley at Clarkston, Central Valley at University and Mt. Spokane against Lewis and Clark at Hart Field. All are at 4 p.m.
•Monday’s Great Northern League doubleheader with Colville at Riverside was postponed until today at 3 p.m.
