U-Hi grabs district bye with second-place finish

Ashley Fargher went 4 for 4, collected two runs batted in and scored three runs Tuesday to give University a 10-0 win over visiting Central Valley on the final day of the Greater Spokane League regular season.

Linse Vlahovich (15-2) struck out six for the Titans (17-2, 17-1), who earned a first-round bye for the District 8 4A playoffs. GSL champion Shadle Park also has an opening-round bye.

The Bears (12-7, 13-7) finished fifth and will open district at 5 p.m. Thursday at Whitworth against fourth-seeded Mt. Spokane.

In other games, Jackie Purser’s solo home run in the sixth led Mt. Spokane to a 3-1 victory over host Lewis and Clark at Hart Field. Kristina DeMello struck out six and Katie Stokes had two hits for the Wildcats (16-3, 16-4). The Tigers finished 3-16, 3-16. … Kim Loberg picked up her fourth win and helped her cause with a pair of hits in West Valley’s 14-5 win at Clarkston. Allie Isaac added two hits for the Eagles (6-13, 6-14). The win gave WV the No. 3 seed in the District 8 3A tournament and an opener against No. 2 East Valley at U-Hi on Saturday. The fourth-seeded Bantams (5-14, 6-14) will meet top-seeded North Central.

“In the Panorama League tournament, Amanda Grumbach fanned eight in leading Curlew to a 10-0 win over visiting St. George’s. Nicole Miller led the Cougars (17-2) with three RBIs, including a walk-off, two-run double in the bottom of the sixth. The Dragons finished 9-10. Curlew meets Inchelium in a semifinal at Kettle Falls at 11 a.m. Friday. … Sarah Kennedy collected four hits and three RBIs while striking out six to give Republic a 12-5 win over visiting Springdale (9-10) in a loser-out game. Keari Sager and Randi Beck each had three RBIs for the Tigers (12-7). Republic will play Selkirk in Friday’s other 11 a.m. semifinal. … Earlier in the day, Springdale notched a 13-2 loser-out win over Cusick (3-14). Rachel Blair totaled two triples and six RBIs for the Chargers.

Brianna Johns doubled and homered and Sarah Stewart collected three hits in leading Davenport to a 10-6 win over visiting Wilbur-Creston in the Bi-County League tournament. Kayleigh Fisk struck out eight for the Gorillas (15-4). Davenport plays Almira/Coulee-Hartline at Medical Lake at 10 a.m. Thursday. W-C (1-16) meets Lind-Ritzville at noon at ML. … Jessica Mangis threw her third no-hitter of the year in Liberty’s 12-0 win over visiting Northwest Christian. Amber Calvert had two RBIs and scored two runs for the Lancers (15-5). Liberty meets Odessa at 10 a.m. Thursday at ML. The Crusaders (4-14) play Reardan at noon. … Dani Evans hit a three-run homer in the first to spark Odessa in a 9-3 win over visiting Reardan (4-11). Jennie Harp struck out 11 for the Tigers (13-6). … Timi Winfrey’s two-run triple in the sixth secured ACH’s 7-3 win over host Lind-Ritzville.

“Kim Weber struck out five and walked one as Colton defeated Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia 4-0 in the title game of the Whitman County tournament at Colfax. Nikki Reidner sparked the Wildcats with a two-run double in the first. Colton advanced to the District 9B tournament as the No. 1 seed and will host the fourth seed from the Blue Mountain Conference. The Nighthawks (10-6) move on as the No. 2 seed for a game against the BMC third seed. Elsewhere, LaCrosse-Washtucna (10-8) defeated Garfield-Palouse 13-5 in the game for third and fourth seeds. The Tigercats will meet the No. 2 seed from the BMC. The Vikings (6-6) will go up against the No. 1 seed. … Amanda Fisher allowed two runs in a complete-game win to give L-W a 4-2 win over Asotin in a loser-out game. Fisher ended two separate Panthers (5-6) rallies via strikeout.

Baseball

Justin Propeck’s two-strike, two-out double in the fifth drove in the only run of the game to give visiting Medical Lake a 1-0 win over Colville (8-13) in a District 7 2A loser-out game. The Cardinals (10-11) play at Pullman today. … Tyler Dornquast’s solo homer in the third gave Riverside (7-14) a 2-1 win over host Lakeside (11-9) in a loser-out game at Nine Mile Falls. Jason Paul struck out six for a complete-game win. Riverside plays at Chewelah today.

Kyle Kelly provided all the offense Colton needed in a 3-2 District 9 B win over visiting Dayton in a loser-out contest. The Wildcats (9-7) play against DeSales at 10 a.m. Saturday. … Jared Ayers-Stamper struck out 12 and Luke Stanley doubled and homered to propel LaCrosse-Washtucna past Touchet 11-2 in quarterfinal action. The Tigercats (9-8) advance to the other semifinal game where they will meet Asotin in Colfax at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Golf

A pair of Ferris sophomores are on top of the boys’ leaderboard after the first round of the District 8 4A tournament at Wandermere Golf Course. Dustin Poe fired a 1-under-par 69 and teammate Ryan Jones shot a 72. Central Valley’s Nick Grigsby also fired a 72. A quartet of golfers is tied for fourth place at 73. The tournament concludes today at Indian Canyon. … Amy Eneroth shot a 2-under 72 in the girls District tournament at Liberty Lake. Annie Brophy of Gonzaga Prep stands in second place, five strokes behind Eneroth. Lewis and Clark Molly Fuhs rounded out the top three at 78. The tournament ends today with a round at MeadowWood.

Dillon Williams’ 4-over 70 led Pullman to the Great Northern League championship at Liberty Lake. The Greyhounds’ team score of 401 gave them a 35-stroke edge on Riverside. Pullman’s Brian Tan (80) and Christian Vance (81) finished third and fourth. Williams shared co-medalist honors with Riverside’s Tyler Morris. Advancing golfers play at Tuesday’s District 7 2A tournament at Hangman Valley.

Boys soccer

Jason Gomez scored twice to help Medical Lake to a 4-1 victory over visiting Colville in a loser-out match at the District 7 2A tournament. Lucas Assis scored 13 minutes into the match and the Cardinals (12-4) took a 2-0 lead on Gomez’ first goal of the game. The Indians (4-12) cut the lead in half at the 31st minute, but Nick Daniels added an insurance goal midway through the second half to secure the win. ML will meet Riverside in a semifinal at Riverside on Thursday at 4 p.m. …

Matt Dougherty scored to give Deer Park a 1-0 victory over Lakeside (4-11) at Deer Park. Andrew Araujo’s cross pass to Dougherty from 22 yards out set up the game-winning goal. The Stags (6-8) play at Pullman in the other semifinal contest on Thursday at 4 p.m.
