Whitman County: Baseball is into the semifinals of the District 9 tournament, which will be held Saturday. One semifinal pits WCL No. 1 Asotin against WCL No. 3 LaCrosse-Washtucna at McDonald Park in Colfax at 10 a.m. Asotin swept the Tigercats in their three regular-season meetings. The other semifinal has WCL No. 2 Colton against Blue Mountain Conference No. 1 DeSales, winner of 12 of the last 13 State B championships. That game will also be in Colfax, at 12:30 p.m. The winners both get into state openers, while the losers play for the third and final spot.

District 7 baseball: Northport (17-1) and Lind-Ritzville (19-1) have earned automatic bids into state courtesy of their league championships. Six teams are left to fight over the remaining two bids, which will be settled today. Reardan (12-8) plays Springdale (13-6) in Davenport, with the winner advancing to face the host Gorillas (13-9) for a spot in the seeding tournament at Avista Stadium on Monday. In Republic, St. Michael’s (12-10) plays Almira/Coulee-Hartline (11-6), with the winner advancing to play the host Tigers (16-3). The winner of that game advances to Monday as well. Monday’s four-team tournament to determine seeding begins at 10 a.m., with Northport facing the winner of the Davenport side of the bracket. At 12:30 p.m., L-R plays the winner of the Republic side of the bracket. The top seed and the fourth seed out of District 7 will get to play their state openers at Spokane Falls CC. The third seed will play at Borleske Stadium in Walla Walla, and the second seed will be at Davis High School in Yakima. Those state openers will be May 28. The State B final four is June 3 and 4 in Yakima.
