Clark Fork’s Allen third; St. Maries baseball fourth

Clark Fork’s Rayna Allen finished third in the State 3A girls tennis tournament at Timberline High School in Boise. Allen defeated Amber Edwards of Parma 6-4, 6-1 in the third-place match after losing 7-6, 6-3 to Caity Jones of Homedale, the eventual champion.

•Coeur d’Alene’s Sam Lyons advanced to the consolation semifinals of the State 5A boys tennis tournament at Boise Racquet and Swim Club before losing 6-3, 6-2 to Timberline’s Mike Mansel. … Lewiston’s Mei and Kim Fong won the consolation doubles finals at the State 5A girls tennis tournament, beating a team from Mountain View 6-2, 6-2. … No results were reported from the 4A tennis tournament.

Baseball

St. Maries (15-10) lost 3-1 to Sugar-Salem in the third-place game of the State 3A baseball tournament at Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Ore.

Ryan Eberlin struck out eight in a complete-game loss for the Lumberjacks, allowing seven hits and three runs, as St. Maries finished fourth.

St. Maries scored in the first on an infield single by Tucker Baker, with an error on the throw scoring Eberlin. The Lumberjacks left the bases loaded in the fourth inning.

St. Maries will return seven of nine starters next year.

Golf

Lewiston rode a 290 on the second day of competition to third place in the State 5A golf tournament at Twin Falls Municipal Golf Course.

Bryson Carter, Randy Buono and Jordan Howerton all shot a 72 for the Bengals, while Matt Solem and Jordan MacKey rallied from first-day 79s to shoot 74.

Toliver Latham of Twin Falls shot a 69 to win the individual state title, shooting a two-day total of 137.

Washington

Clarkston won a pair of games today at the District 8 3A softball tournament at University High School to grab the second seed from the Greater Spokane League into the regional tournament, beginning next weekend in Richland.

The Bantams (8-14), the fourth seed into the tournament, will face Mid-Valley No. 3 West Valley-Yakima (15-7) in the opening round next weekend. North Central (11-9) won the district and earned a bye into the second round.
