Online summer school

The Spokesman-Review

Washington state high school students who want to catch up or get a head start on class credits this summer will be have that opportunity at The NET, an online summer school, offered June 13 through Aug. 5, administered by Educational Service District 101.

The Net provides a convenient alternative for completion of summer school classes at a time when few public schools offer summer sessions.

With high school counselor approval, students may select up to two of more than 40 course offerings available on the Internet. The classes cover all levels of language arts, math, social studies and science.

Elective noncredit coursework is available as well, including GED or SAT preparation and school-to-work curricula focused on business, public service and technology careers.

Students can schedule class time around other commitments as online instruction is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

A state-certified ESD 101 instructor will assist students with their coursework through e-mail, phone consultation and face-to-face conferencing during office hours.

Students who do not have a home computer or access to one through a neighborhood center, library or school can use one in the ESD 101 computer lab at its North Side facility at 1025 W. Indiana Ave.

To participate in The NET’s summer session, students must complete online registration by June 10 at http://webdb.esd101.net/novanet/summer_05.htm.

The cost is $160 per course, and fees are nonrefundable. Students must schedule an on-site orientation with an instructor during the first week of June.
