The Spokesman-Review

Chewelah’s Jordan Monasmith and Lacey Jordan of Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls pitched four-hit shutouts to lead their teams to wins during Thursday afternoon’s loser-out openers of the District 7 2A softball tournament at Medical Lake.

Monasmith (8-3) struck out five, went 2 for 2 and scored a run as her Cougars (12-7) posted a 6-0 win over Riverside (8-11). For the Cougars, Brittany Wilsey went 3 for 4 with three runs and an RBI, and Amanda Whitley had a two-run single during a four-run sixth inning.

Jordan struck out four and walked three during a 4-0 win over Pullman (7-14). Tiffany Corigliano had an RBI single for the Eagles (10-11) during a two-run first.

The tournament resumes with five games at Medical Lake on Saturday. At 10 a.m., Lakeside will meet second-seeded Medical Lake (11-7), and Chewelah will play No. 1 Colville (19-1). Colville has won 15 straight games since a 2-1 loss to Omak on April 2.

Two teams will advance to the June 3-4 state tournament in Wenatchee.
