Whitewater parks are exploding in popularity as cities try to harness the economic development potential of their rivers. Spokane soon will be part of that trend.
A local group has secured financing from the Washington Legislature and expects to begin construction next summer on a whitewater park just west of downtown Spokane.
The project could mean $2 million to $3 million a year to the region, backers say.
