Week in review
Newman Lake SCOPE – Members discussed a recent clean up day around the lake on April 16. About 100 volunteers spent the day picking up several tons of trash. The group has a popular hot dog sale that is one of two main fund-raisers. This year’s sale is set for July 2 and 3 at Moab Junction. Members also decided to order address signs and bike path signs. They also announced plans to do vacation home checks for residents and use their radar equipment to snag speeders. (Source: President Tom Rulffes)
University SCOPE – Three new members were welcomed. Members also talked about a rest stop fund-raiser planned for July. It was also announced that the Sunrise Rotary Club plans to donate an unknown amount of money to the group. (Source: Secretary Donna Cave)
East SCOPE (Otis Orchards) – They discussed the upcoming Citizen’s Emergency Response Team training on June 11. Members are also planning a fund-raiser at the Horn School rest stop near Pullman over the Fourth of July weekend. They also welcomed eight new members who have joined in the last month. Fire District 13 (Newman Lake) – Commissioners discussed upcoming training offered through District 9. There was also further discussion on creating a shore based rescue policy. Commissioners also plan to look into using an inmate labor crew to clean up vacant lands owned by the district. (Source: Secretary Denise Kolva.)
West Valley SCOPE – Members primarily discussed the upcoming parade and carnival planned for next Saturday. They also discussed sending volunteers to the CERT training on June 11 and tactical training on June 7 at the fairgrounds. (Source: President June King)
