Blanket collection under way at ECC

The second annual Grandma Lucy Blanket Drive is accepting blankets today through Dec. 1.

New or gently used blankets may be dropped off at the East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone St.

The blankets will be distributed to children and adults who may otherwise be sleeping under coats, newspapers or shower curtains this winter, said Connie Hardan, a former social worker.

Hardan organized the blanket drive in memory of her grandmother, Alice “Lucy” Harty. Last year, more than 877 blankets were collected.

According to Hardan, Kmart on North Division has offered to sell twin- and double-size blankets at a discounted cost of $3.75 for those who mention the Grandma Lucy Blanket Drive.

Checks also will be accepted and can be made out to Connie Hardan and sent to P.O. Box 48202, Spokane, WA 99228. For information, call 487-5141.
