November brings pumpkin pie, short days and, possibly, the first snowfall. It brings a few chores for homeowners as well.

Indoors

Have your thermostat checked and recalibrated if necessary. Set it at 68 degrees to conserve fuel.

Plan home-improvement projects to do over the winter and stock up on supplies like painter’s tape, caulk and spackling.

It’s time to install those storm windows. Check windows and doors for drafts.

Have the knives sharpened so you can carve the turkey.

Outdoors

Stack firewood where it will be handy but won’t attract insects.

Winterize roses by covering with a mound of mulch, pine needles or soil.

Disconnect hoses and shut-off outside faucets.
