Shadle Park upsets Kamiakin
Brynn Delong had 12 kills, two aces and five blocks as Shadle Park upset Kamiakin 25-19, 25-23, 13-25, 25-19 in the first round of the 4A Eastern Regional volleyball tournament at Kennewick.
Shadle, the Greater Spokane League’s No. 3 seed, defeated the Big Nine’s No. 2 to set up a semifinal match with reigning GSL and defending state champion Mead, who coasted to a 25-12, 25-16, 25-15 victory over Big Nine No. 4 Richland.
In other regional action, Ivy Bush had 11 kills and 14 digs as GSL No. 2 Lewis and Clark swept Big Nine No. 3 Wenatchee 25-20, 25-16, 25-21. Hannah Zimmerman added seven blocks for the Tigers, who will face Big Nine champion Eisenhower in today’s semifinal. … Eisenhower defeated GSL No. 4 University 25-20, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20 for the only Big Nine victory of the day. … The tournament continues today at 10 a.m. in Kennewick, where three State 4A berths will be determined.
Boys soccer
Corey Heimbecker scored in the 83rd minute to give Northwest Christian the District 7 1A/B title with a 2-1 overtime victory over host St. George’s (9-6), which swept NWC in the regular season. Heimbecker rebounded a shot that was deflected by St. George’s goalkeeper Matt Jackson, who had 14 saves. Jared Friedley forced overtime for the Crusaders (9-5) with a goal in the 58th minute.
