Fairfield City Council – The council held a public hearing on requesting a grant to pay for water main replacements. A hearing also was held to set the 2006 tax levy rate, which will remain unchanged at 3.1 percent. The preliminary 2006 budget was discussed. The council discussed plans to apply for a Department of Ecology grant to retrofit diesel-powered heavy-duty vehicles to reduce emissions. Fire District 2 is asking the town to pay $4,000 more per year for fire protection, an increase of 25 percent. The council discussed the request and will gather more information. Rockford City Council – The council discussed the preliminary 2006 budget. It opened bids for a new fire truck being paid for by a FEMA grant. The accepted bid will be announced at the council’s next meeting. (Source: Town clerk)

Liberty Lake SCOPE – Several volunteers were recognized for the number of hours they have spent volunteering. Volunteers will be assisting with a flu mist clinic at the fairgrounds. Nominations were accepted for new officers. (Source: President Wendy Van Orman)

Central Valley SCOPE – Representatives from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office made a presentation on an upcoming class on terrorism. Volunteers discussed the neighborhood watch program. Volunteers also are making plans to install new carpet and paint the SCOPE office. (Source: Deanna Hormann)

West Valley SCOPE – Members discussed a request for volunteers to assist at an upcoming flu mist clinic at the fairgrounds. They also discussed having a potluck Christmas party and organizing the annual toy drive to assist Toys for Tots. The group will not have another meeting until January. (Source: President June King)
