Elvis album

Larry Cox King Features Syndicate

Q: I have an album by Elvis Presley, “How Great Thou Art,” in stereo and issued by RCA. Is it worth much? — Janet, Crossville, Tenn.

A: This was an easy question to answer. If your album is mint to near new, it is valued at about $50 in the current edition of Presleyana V, edited by Jerry Osborne and Bob Alaniz, and published by Osborne Enterprises, Port Townsend, Wash.

Q: I recently obtained about 100 Precious Moments figurines. I would like to insure this collection under my homeowner’s policy and have been asked to itemize their value. How can I determine it? — Connie, Westminster, Colo.

A: Eugene Freedman, CEO of the ENESCO Corporation, saw artist Sam Butcher’s simple drawings of teardrop-eyed children, and they were the inspiration for a line of collectibles his company marketed under the name of Precious Moments.

To evaluate your collection, you need the services of an established dealer who deals in the secondary market. Kristi Schult is an expert and the author of The Guide to the World of Precious Moments, published in 2003. Her address is 7601-E Nehe St., Honolulu, HI 95818. You might also want to contact the Enesco Precious Moments Collectors’ Club, P.O. Box 99, Ithaca, IL 60143.

Q: Where can I find out how much a signed basketball by the players of the 1962 Boston Celtics is worth? — Ernie (via e-mail)

A: One of the better publications for basketball memorabilia collectors is Beckett Basketball Collector, 15850 Dallas Parkway, Dallas, TX 75248. This informative magazine features articles, ads and current prices and should be helpful.

Q: I have a photo of E.M. Morgan taken by the George H. Davis studio of Boston. It is in a mother of pearl frame, and I am curious about its value. — Shirley, Northglenn, Colo.

A: Since I have no idea of who E.M. Morgan was or is, I suspect the frame might be worth more than the picture. I suggest you take your frame and show it to some of the better dealers along Broadway’s Antique Row in Denver to find out its value.
