The last remaining major open space separating Coeur d’Alene from Hayden won’t be weeds much longer. Four to six commercial buildings will be built in the acreage off the northeast corner of Government Way and Prairie Avenue (beyond Washington Trust Bank and Danaan’s Deli).

The development is called Hayden Creek Plaza, with the major building a 30,000-square-foot retail and office center bordering Government Way. Owned by Merritt Brothers, the building will be divided into 1,500-square-foot spaces that should be available in late spring.

Jack Beebe of Beebe, McKernan & Daboll Real Estate, said the location is ideal for retail or office spaces. It’s designed by Miller Stauffer Architects of Coeur d’Alene. For information, call (208) 667-9485.

Just to the east, with access off the new street of Wayne Drive, Holmes Law Office plans a 2,400-square-foot building and possibly a second structure. Specializing in real estate and business law, the husband-wife team of Ed and Lisa Holmes will move their offices from leased spaces on Sherman Avenue in about a year. Originally from Colorado Springs and Phoenix respectively, they met at the University of Idaho School of Law and came to North Idaho 12 years ago.

On the east side of Wayne Drive, Dr. Scott Johnson plans one or two buildings just off Prairie Avenue. Each would be about 4,500 square feet. He plans a dental office for one building while retaining his current office in Post Falls. Originally from Canada, he was educated in California and came to North Idaho in 1995. He said he became familiar with the area while attending high school at Upper Columbia Academy in Spangle, Wash. He has a staff of seven.

Hoping to occupy its spaces in mid-spring, Precision Energy Service is constructing a 5,200-square-foot building just north of the Johnson property. Providing technical services and consulting to power and wastewater plants, the seven-employee company has been in North Idaho for 12 years. Owners Mike and Linda Oswald, both North Idaho natives, will offer leased office spaces in the upper floor of their facility. Phone (208) 772-4457.

Mangiamo Pizza now open

With the name of the place meaning “Let’s Eat!” in Italian, Mangiamo Pizza opened last weekend in Fairgrounds Center, 4055 Government Way. The space formerly housed The Pizza Guys.

“No one compares!” exclaimed owner Sondra Vennewitz of the eatery’s gourmet pizza, calzones and pasta. She and her husband, Troy, came to North Idaho from Sacramento in September after visiting relatives here a month earlier.

Mangiamo’s has eat-in spaces for 15 customers and offers take-out by phoning (208) 664-2016. Delivery will be added later. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
