Events and closures

Most federal, state, county and city government offices, including postal service, libraries and public schools and universities, will be closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.

Parking meters in Spokane will be enforced.

The Spokane Transit Authority will provide regular bus service.

Washington state liquor stores will be closed.

Idaho

Today

Skyway third-graders present “Lights of Freedom,” a musical program for students, at 9:30 a.m., followed by an evening performance for parents and families at 7 p.m. All veterans are welcome to attend.

Dalton Elementary School will have a Veterans Day assembly at 9:30 p.m.

Lake City High School will re-enact the fall of the Berlin Wall as the main focus of its Veterans Day celebration at 2:20 p.m.

Coeur d’Alene High School will have its observance starting at 8 a.m. with a flag-raising ceremony conducted by the American Legion. At 9:25, the student body will gather for an assembly with Chief Craig Weddle as guest speaker. The school band and choir will perform.

Friday

River City Middle School, Post Falls, is having a Veterans Day assembly at 1 p.m. Mayor Clay Larkin and members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will attend.

Spokane

Today

Because Friday is a holiday, many area schools have scheduled Veterans Day events today. They include:

Rogers High School AFJROTC will honor veterans from the Spokane community at 8:30 a.m.

Adams Elementary School will present student artwork to veterans at a 1:45 p.m. assembly.

Jefferson Elementary School’s Veterans Day assembly will include a talk by Mike Pannek, who supervised operations at a prison in Baghdad, at 2 p.m.

Ferris High School’s Fall Band Concert and Veterans Tribute will be in the auditorium at 7 p.m.

Friday

Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena ceremony is at 10 a.m. Keynote speaker is Dr. Leslie Burger, retired U.S. Army major general.

Veterans Affairs Medical Center ribbon-cutting for the new urgent care center is at 2 p.m. Keynote speaker is 5th District U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris.

Whitworth College’s annual Veterans Day program is at 11 a.m. at Centennial Plaza, 300 W. Hawthorne.
