I-90 widening complete

The Spokesman-Review

Drivers on Interstate 90 could finally speed up through Spokane Valley as the state transportation department Tuesday raised the speed limit to 60 miles per hour following two years of construction.

“It’s definitely a blessing to have it completed,” Councilman Steve Taylor said during a ceremony at the Spokane Valley Mall Monday held to celebrate the project’s completion.

Washington Transportation Secretary Douglas MacDonald emphatically told officials from the city, Olympia and Washington, D.C. that the project was finished both on time and within its budget.

I-90 is now at least three lanes wide in each direction from Argonne Road to Sullivan Road. The project cost about $37 million and is part of a series of improvements to the highway between Spokane and the Idaho state line.
