YOUR BEAUTIFUL HOME
When Ken and Jackie Dorris moved back to the Spokane area from Alaska three years ago they had a list of things their new home must have.
After spending time looking around, a trip to Hayden, Idaho, paid off.
When they saw the beautiful home, which had been built in 1995 and modeled after George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate, the couple knew they had found what they were looking for.
Ken, who owns a fish-processing company in Alaska, says the first priority was to find a peaceful setting for the family. They have four children.
“My wife and I both had hectic careers,” he said. “Out here we feel like we’re miles away from the city, but we’re only minutes out of town.”
The home sits on 11 acres and boasts a well-stocked fishing pond and a water feature. “We’ve got 1,000 trout in the pond and in the summer the kids love to fish,” Ken Dorris said. “And they love to play on the baseball field.”
An added benefit to living in the house has been the regular appearance of area wildlife.
“We have moose, deer, bears and bobcat running through,” he said. “Our children have gotten a view of nature that most people never get the opportunity to see.”
