Good Sam nice place to be for seniors

I was so pleased to read your feature on the Valley Good Sam (Valley Voice, Saturday, Nov. 19). My mother lives there in the nursing home section and before that she lived in the residential towers. We picked Good Sam because at the time my father was going to need a nursing home and she could rent an apartment to be nearby. My father died before he could be transferred but she went ahead and moved into the independent apartments section. Eventually she got to the point she needed nursing-home care and was moved over to that department. Hardly a visit goes by without her telling me that she is so glad I found her such a nice place to live.

My only complaint with Good Sam is that they do not have more apartments or condos that my husband and I could move into for our own retirement from “the big house that is not needed anymore.” They do have duplexes and a clubhouse that is great but I would like to see more housing for us independent people who are not quite ready for a small apartment.

Unlike so many nursing homes, this one does not have the smell that is often associated with a nursing home, and the staff take great care of the residents.

Thanks for meeting the challenge

I would like to take time at Thanksgiving to say a big “thank you” to all the Valley citizens who collected signatures to put the City Council pay raise and disincorporation on the ballot.

You met the challenge with the pay raise issue, and even though we didn’t get 23,000 signatures on disincorporation, you got well over 10,000 with very little supermarket time.

What’s remarkable is that you put in hour after hour for no pay, no recognition and no personal gain. You did it because you believed in what you were doing. You walked the walk for your principles. How inspiring!

You proved that the indomitable American spirit lives.

I thank you and admire you.
