Applications open for Lilac Festival Royal Court

The Spokane Lilac Festival Association is inviting all senior girls at Spokane County high schools to apply for the 2006 Lilac Festival Royal Court.

Applicants must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher at the end of their junior year, be full-time high school student in Spokane County and be scheduled to graduate with their class.

They must also be a resident of Spokane County, single, never married, divorced or had a marriage annulled, be childless and never been convicted of a crime.

The festival expects candidates to have a good citizenship record, demonstrate community involvement and good school attendance and, as of Dec. 5, 2005, hold no other royalty titles.

To submit an application, senior girls, home-schooled and Running Start students are asked to contact their high schools.

Schools who have agreed, thus far, to participate in the 2006 Royalty Program are: Central Valley, Cheney, Deer Park, East Valley, Ferris, Freeman, Gonzaga Preparatory, Lewis and Clark, Mead, Medical Lake, Mt. Spokane, Northwest Christian, Oaks Christian Academy, Rogers, St. Georges, Shadle Park, University, Valley Christian and West Valley.

Applications are due to the Lilac Festival through the high schools by 3:30 p.m. Dec. 5.

St. George’s students named AP scholars

Ten St. George’s students have been recognized by the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program as AP Scholars for their high scores on Advanced Placement Exams.

Charlie Stangle, a 2005 graduate, earned an average of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more exams. His nine AP exams earned an average score of 4.56.

Current students recognized include seniors Kate Fischer, Kenny Hong and Katherine Kerschen, named AP Scholars with honor for earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more exams.

Junior Daniel Copeland and seniors Daniel Crane, Matt Jackson, Bill Kang, Cordelia Revells, Jessee Rouse and Luca Valle were named AP Scholars for earning grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.

The AP Program allows high school students to take college-level courses and earn college credit.

G-Prep open house

Gonzaga Preparatory School will hold an open house for all grade school and middle school students and their parents interested in attending from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 16 at the school, 1224 E. Euclid Ave.
