Tour event to offer red-carpet treatment

Steve Christilaw Correspondent

Confession time.

Who hasn’t secretly fantasized about finding themselves within the pages of People Magazine? Of finding themselves between the photos of the famous and infamous published in America’s favorite weekly light read?

And who hasn’t been disappointed to open the issue featuring “The Sexiest Man Alive” and not find their own face looking back? No, wait. That may be too much information to reveal.

Ahem.

So, getting back to the point: you have a chance to find your way through the pages of People Magazine as it brings its People Live tour to the Wal-Mart Supercenter Thursday and Friday from noon to 4 p.m.

The magazine, which debuted in 1974 and now boasts a readership of more than 40 million weekly readers, presents an interactive, red carpet display that brings Hollywood glitz and glamour to its public. The 60-day tour visits Wal-Mart Supercenters in 26 states.

Here’s the setup: consumers will be treated to their very own Hollywood red carpet premiere.

Suave hair experts will help get everyone ready for their walk down the red carpet, complete with a keepsake “photo op.”

And what Hollywood event would be complete without the fabled “goody bag?”

Everyone leaves with a bag of product samples, a DVD of their Hollywood “screen test,” and a music CD made up of personally chosen downloads.

The Grammy Awards get into the act, providing a traveling exhibit of one-of-a-kind memorabilia on loan from the Recording Academy.

On the bright side, there are a few things you will avoid during this Hollywood experience. It’s virtually guaranteed that no one will stick a microphone in your face and ask “Who are you wearing?”

Joan Rivers and her daughter will not fawn over you one second, then say scathing things about your ensemble behind your back, and Star Jones will not offer to show you pictures from her wedding.

Aside from not getting to wear a first-of-its-kind designer original dress or wearing jewelry worth millions on loan from Harry Winston, it’s a pretty good deal – a taste of what it’s like on the other side of the paparazzo’s lens.
