Buckeye injured

Ohio State starting strong safety Tyler Everett was injured making a tackle during the second quarter of Saturday’s 35-24 win over Michigan State in Columbus, Ohio. Everett appeared to jam his neck and head while making helmet-to-helmet contact with a Michigan State player. He remained face down and motionless for a few minutes before two trainers helped him off the field. Everett was taken to a hospital for tests. He was released after tests revealed he had a sprained neck and shoulder, according to university spokesman Steve Snapp.

Definition of futility

Kansas lost to Oklahoma 19-3 in Kansas City, Mo., running its streak of quarters without TDs to nine. The Jayhawks lost 12-3 to Kansas State the week before and haven’t found the end zone since the third quarter of a 30-17 loss to Texas Tech.

Small-school stars

Keith Ricca and Nick Bublavi, Catholic. Ricca threw for a school-record 488 yards and five TDs and Bublavi’s 386 yards receiving also set a school mark in the Cardinals’ 41-34 win over La Salle.

•Nick Hartigan, Brown, ran for 245 yards and scored his school-record 40th TD in the Bears’ 31-28 win over Princeton.

•Andre Copeland, Charleston Southern, ran for a school-record 226 yards and scored four TDs in a 63-42 win over Virginia Wesleyan.

Texas Tech’s Henderson sets mark

Texas Tech running back Taurean Henderson broke the NCAA record for career receptions by a running back, catching his 263rd pass during the first quarter of a win over Kansas State in Lubbock, Texas.

Henderson entered the game needing one catch to pass Long Beach State’s Mark Templeton for the career record. Templeton caught 262 passes from 1984-87.
