National award to local writer
Jonathan Lipke, a 2005 graduate of Deer Park High School, won second place in a national outdoor writing contest.
Lipke’s story, “The Vow,” was runner-up in the senior prose category of the Outdoor Writers Association of America 2004 Youth Writing Contest.
Lipke was a finalist in The Spokesman-Review 2004 Youth Writing Contest and his story, published on Dec. 26, was forwarded to the national competition. Winners were announced in June during the OWAA conference in Wisconsin.
Lipke enrolled at the University of Idaho this fall and pursue studies in wildlife resources and outdoor recreation.
