Boys and Girls Club gets $50,000 donation

The Spokesman-Review

Washington Trust Bank donated $50,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Spokane County in a ceremony on Wednesday.

The club, which provided services to 1,600 children last year, runs numerous after-school programs, including those that help children with homework, computer training, career exploration, arts and crafts, and sports and fitness.

“It’s a place where our kids can enjoy being kids without the pressures of the streets and learn about character, responsibility and hope,” said Peter F. Stanton, chairman and CEO of Washington Trust Bank and a member of the club’s national board. “It’s a place where my investment has tremendous return.”

The Spokane club estimates it costs $350 a year to provide services to one child. The donation will be used to help hire a new teen director and staff members, according to a club spokesman.

The club is located at 544 E. Providence Ave.
