Two dead, one missing from capsized boat
WINCHESTER BAY, Ore. – Two people are dead and a third is missing after a tuna charter boat capsized in 53-degree water off the Umpqua River jetty.
The U.S. Coast Guard plucked the captain and another man out of the frigid water late Monday night.
Survivors include the skipper of the Sydney Mae II, Richard Oba, 50, of Reedsport and James Parker, of Eugene. But the search was called off after 45 minutes due to poor visibility.
Later, a search crew found the body of Ginger Strelow, 64, of Reedsport, two miles south of the river jetty. The body of Springfield resident Bill Harris, was found about six miles south of where the 38-foot boat capsized. Still unaccounted for is Paul Turner, 76, of Boise. The cause of the accident is not known.
